ZF has introduced the High Revolution Drive, a compact 3-in-1 electric system capable of reaching 30,000 RPM. By increasing rotational speed, the design reduces torque requirements, allowing for a more lightweight construction. The system integrates the electric motor, inverter, and a two-stage spur gear transmission with a gear ratio of approximately 18:1.

Compared to the existing SELECT drive with a 200 kW output and 18,000 RPM limit, the new unit is 25 per cent lighter and requires 25 per cent less installation space. ZF aims to cut magnet usage by 50 per cent, which is intended to lower production costs and reduce reliance on specific raw material supply chains. The system maintains efficiency levels comparable to previous models.

The drive is built on the modular SELECT platform and supports both 400-volt and 800-volt architectures. It is primarily designed for the volume segment with power outputs ranging from 150 kW to 200 kW. To manage noise and vibration at high speeds, ZF optimized the gear geometry, bearings, and overall transmission design.

Currently in the pre-series phase, the technology is being discussed with several automotive manufacturers. ZF plans to commence series production by 2030. This development follows a strategic reorganization of the company's e-mobility business, where it opted to keep electric motor and inverter production in-house despite current cost pressures.
