Lucid has released a new teaser video showcasing the design of its upcoming midsize electric SUV, the Cosmos. The vehicle features illuminated rear lettering, a rear-glass spoiler, and sculpted LED headlights. The design aligns with patent filings submitted to the EU Intellectual Property Office in May.
The Cosmos is built on a new midsize platform and is expected to be priced under $50,000. Lucid claims the vehicle will offer a range of approximately 300 miles from a 69 kWh battery pack, with an efficiency of 4.5 mi/kWh. The car will utilize the new Atlas drive unit, which reportedly contains 30% fewer parts and costs 37% less than the Zeus unit used in the Gravity model.
The production timeline for the Cosmos has been delayed. CEO Silvio Napoli shifted the expected launch from late 2026 to the second half of 2027. This schedule aligns the release with the Rivian R2. Lucid currently faces production challenges, having delivered 3,806 vehicles in Q3, a 7% year-over-year decline, while producing 2,954 units after reducing shifts at its Arizona factory.
Lucid states that its current cash reserves will last well into 2027. The company is positioning the Cosmos as a volume-focused model to compete with the Tesla Model Y and the Rivian R2. Financial reports for Q3 are scheduled for release on Monday.
