Liebherr has launched the R 9300 G8-E, a 250-tonne electric mining excavator. This model is based on the existing R 9300 G8 platform and marks the company's transition from limited diesel-to-electric conversions, which began in 2024, to regular production.

The machine features an 850 kW electric drivetrain that supports 6-6.6 kV power supplies. It maintains the same hydraulic power and bucket capacity of 1.8 tonnes per cubic meter as the diesel-powered version of the excavator.

The R 9300 G8-E is designed to operate primarily via grid power, allowing for continuous use. It includes the Liebherr Power Efficiency hydraulic control system and is compatible with the company's IoMine technology, including semi-autonomous bucket filling and data visualization tools.

The electric drivetrain contains fewer moving parts than the diesel counterpart, which the company states can lower maintenance requirements and operating costs. Additionally, the design reduces in-cab vibration to improve operator comfort.
