Indian space startup TakeMe2Space is scheduled to launch its MOI-1A satellite on October 1 via a SpaceX Transporter-18 mission. The company identifies the device as India's first orbital computing satellite, designed to process data in space rather than transmitting raw datasets back to Earth.

The MOI-1A satellite weighs under 50kg and features an NVIDIA Orin NX edge computing processor with a power consumption of approximately 150W. The mission has already secured 23 commercial clients, including firms in agriculture, mining, supply chain management, and insurance, such as Little Place Labs.

Clients can upload containerized AI models to the satellite, which processes data while orbiting over specific regions. This approach aims to reduce costs for users who would otherwise pay to download large volumes of raw data. The company also plans to offer orbital cold storage for financial and defense sectors.

TakeMe2Space previously conducted a successful technical verification mission in late 2024, testing app uploads and AI inference. A subsequent satellite, MOI-1, was lost due to a launch vehicle failure. The startup designs most subsystems in India while sourcing chips, solar cells, and propulsion systems externally.

Looking ahead, the company aims to develop larger, interconnected satellite constellations that can serve multiple clients simultaneously. Starting in 2027, TakeMe2Space plans to deploy these larger units to further increase onboard computing capacity and reduce operational costs.
