Southwest Airlines has begun integrating Starlink satellite internet across its fleet. Passengers can identify equipped aircraft through the airline's mobile application, which displays a specific WiFi Powered by Starlink label. The service provides high-speed connectivity throughout the entire flight, supporting activities such as streaming, gaming, and multi-device usage.
The airline plans to expand this rollout significantly, aiming to equip more than 300 aircraft with Starlink hardware by the end of 2026. This initiative is part of a broader trend in the aviation industry, as other major carriers are also adopting the technology to enhance in-flight connectivity for their passengers.
Other airlines are pursuing similar deployment strategies. United Airlines is currently outfitting its Boeing 777-200 long-haul fleet and expects to have over 1,000 aircraft equipped with Starlink by the end of 2026. Meanwhile, Austrian Airlines has started using the service on its Airbus A320neo jets, with plans to cover 20 aircraft by the end of the 2026/27 winter season.
