Tesla has unveiled the redesigned second-generation Roadster, featuring integrated SpaceX thrusters. During a demonstration in Waco, Texas, the vehicle performed maneuvers including driving up an inverted ramp and hovering over other Tesla models, such as the Cybertruck and Model Y.
CEO Elon Musk stated that the vehicle is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour in one second. He confirmed that the demonstrated capabilities will be available in the production version of the car, allowing drivers to perform similar maneuvers.
The project has faced significant delays since the initial reveal in 2017. Tesla previously accepted deposits of $50 000 for standard reservations and $250 000 for the 1 000 limited Founders Series units.
Musk first proposed the addition of SpaceX rocket thrusters in 2018 to enhance acceleration, braking, and cornering. Development was repeatedly postponed due to production challenges with other models, including the Model 3 and Cybertruck.
