XPENG has officially branded its robotaxi business as XPENG YOYO and launched a mini program for public testing via invitation codes. This transition marks a shift from internal validation to real-world user engagement. The company previously completed over 2,000 internal test rides in Guangzhou by August 2026 and secured approval for driverless road testing on designated routes.
The YOYO robotaxi is built on the flagship GX model, with the first production unit completed in May 2026. The vehicle features four proprietary Turing AI chips providing 3,000 TOPS of computing power and utilizes a second-generation Vision-Language-Action model. The system relies on vision-based perception, bypassing the need for LiDAR or high-definition maps.
XPENG intends to act as a technology provider rather than a fleet operator, partnering with third parties to manage daily operations. The company plans to launch a dedicated robotaxi model in 2027 and expand services from Guangzhou to cities like Shenzhen. CEO He Xiaopeng aims to achieve single-vehicle profitability in Guangzhou by the second half of 2027.
The business model focuses on revenue streams from vehicle sales, technology services, and a share of ride-hailing orders. To ensure long-term viability, the company emphasizes high-density operations and vehicle utilization. Future success depends on managing unit economics, including maintenance, remote operations, and order volume.
