Sarah Sharma, the new CEO of Xbox, is prioritizing transparency and direct communication as core elements of her leadership strategy. This approach marks a significant shift from the management style of her predecessor, Phil Spencer, focusing on clear identification of business challenges and opportunities.
The company's long-term roadmap centers on four key pillars: Core, Content, Creation, and Connection. Sharma aims to align these elements to drive tangible value for players and accelerate revenue growth by the 2028 and 2029 fiscal years. She emphasizes that teams must be more open about both successes and failures.
Financial and operational targets for 2030 include reaching half of the long-term daily active player goal. The company also aims to maintain double-digit growth in user engagement and player base, while targeting industry-leading profit margins.
The restructuring process involves significant workforce reductions. Following an initial layoff of approximately 1,600 employees, the company plans to cut another 1,600 positions, bringing the total to about 3,200 by the end of the fiscal year. Sharma attributed these changes to a lack of focus on core business areas.
