Uber has expanded its partnership with OpenAI, providing access to ChatGPT Work to its entire global workforce of 30,000 employees. The company previously conducted a pilot program earlier this year involving 1,000 staff members across various departments, including finance, operations, and product.

According to Sumanth Sukumar, VP of engineering at Uber, 80% of the initial pilot participants were non-engineers. These employees utilized the AI tool for tasks such as analyzing operational data, localizing training materials for different markets, and creating interactive dashboards for daily workflow management.

The company has not disclosed the financial terms of this enterprise rollout. Instead, management plans to monitor how staff members use the technology and what specific workflows they develop to determine future AI deployment strategies across the business.

Uber previously experimented with 'AI pods,' where 30 AI engineers were paired with various teams for two-week periods to automate key job functions. This initiative aimed to combine technical expertise with specific operational knowledge to identify potential efficiency gains.
