Spotify reported 788 million monthly active users and nearly €5 billion in revenue for the third quarter. Co-CEO Gustav Söderström stated that the company aims to position itself as the primary music service for AI agents, allowing users to interact with the platform through conversational interfaces.
The company has already integrated its services with Meta’s Muse, ChatGPT, and Claude. Söderström noted that Spotify is actively participating in the growth of AI agents rather than restricting access, contrasting this with companies like Amazon that have blocked external agents from their platforms.
Spotify leverages its extensive historical user data to provide personalized recommendations and complex audio processing tasks. Users can request specific actions, such as creating playlists based on tempo, key, or historical listening patterns, which are processed internally by Spotify systems.
The company emphasized that it does not share raw listener data with its AI partners. Instead, external agents send requests to Spotify, which then uses its own proprietary systems to interpret the instructions and determine the appropriate music output.
