Toyota is testing a new mid-engined sports car prototype, which features a coupe body and significant mechanical modifications. The vehicle is currently being evaluated by the company to refine its mid-ship layout, weight distribution, and cooling systems. The prototype utilizes components from the GR Yaris, including headlights and taillights, while incorporating functional fender extensions to accommodate airflow for the mid-mounted engine.

The development project centers on the new G20E turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Toyota aims to achieve an output exceeding 400 horsepower for the future road-legal production model. While the company has not confirmed the final drivetrain, there is potential for an all-wheel-drive configuration. The current prototype serves as a test bed for the powertrain and chassis rather than a preview of the final design.

The coupe-bodied prototype is scheduled to compete in the sixth round of Japan's Super Taikyu Series at the Okayama International Circuit. The vehicle will be entered by GR Team ORC Field in the experimental ST-Q class during the event held from October 23 to October 25. This track testing allows Toyota to gather data on the engine and cooling performance under sustained driving conditions.
