Tesla has unveiled its most advanced high-voltage battery pack, specifically engineered for the upcoming Roadster sports car. Vice President of Engineering Lars Moravy confirmed that the system utilizes custom 4680 cylindrical cells based on a nickel-rich lithium-ion chemistry to maximize power output.

The battery architecture incorporates a sophisticated thermal management system to handle the high energy demands. Each cell features cooling tubes on both sides, while the steel casing has been replaced with aluminum to reduce weight and improve thermal conductivity. The pack is topped with a titanium plate for insulation and protected by an aluminum base plate.

The Roadster's top-tier configuration includes dual rear electric motors, delivering 1341 horsepower and 1399 Nm of torque. Despite this output, the vehicle is designed for efficiency, offering a range exceeding 483 kilometers. The system supports rapid charging, allowing the battery to go from 15% to 85% capacity in just ten minutes.
