Tesla is preparing a major update for its Full Self-Driving software, version 15, which aims to enhance active collision avoidance capabilities. The company’s AI chief, Ashok Elluswamy, stated that the new version will feature earlier hazard prediction and faster reaction times to improve overall safety.

The v15 update represents a significant architectural shift for Tesla. It includes a larger neural network and tighter integration between the system's prediction and control modules. The company has already begun testing early versions of the software within its Robotaxi fleet, specifically on modified Model Y vehicles.

In addition to the core FSD update, Tesla is deploying new safety features such as Automatic Collision Evasion to existing customer vehicles. This system is designed to intervene even when the driver is operating the car manually. The company continues to roll out these tools as part of its broader safety roadmap.

CEO Elon Musk has previously stated that FSD v15 is expected to perform ten times better than human drivers. During the second-quarter earnings call in July, the company confirmed that early versions of the software are already in use. Musk has long maintained that the system will eventually exceed human safety standards.
