Tesla plans to launch 24/7 autonomous taxi operations next month. Ashok Elluswamy, Vice President of AI at Tesla, confirmed that the transition to continuous service will be enabled by the upcoming FSD v15 architecture.
The Robotaxi fleet, which currently operates with time restrictions in cities like Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, and Miami, will integrate the Cybercab and modified Model Y vehicles to ensure sufficient density for round-the-clock availability.
FSD v15 introduces seven major architectural changes compared to v14. The system features a neural network with tens of billions of parameters, designed to improve collision avoidance, hazard prediction, and reaction times.
The software is compatible with both the fourth-generation hardware suite (HW4/AI4) and the specialized computer in the production Cybercab. Tesla intends to use data from the commercial fleet to refine the system before a wider rollout to consumer vehicles.
The company expects to begin deploying the updated commercial fleet in October. Successful implementation of FSD v15 in Robotaxis is a prerequisite for expanding the service into new metropolitan markets and for the planned release to HW4-equipped consumer cars by early next year.
