Sechenov University has reached a milestone of 5,000 robot-assisted surgeries. The program began in 2015 with a prostatectomy performed by Evgeny Shpot at the R.N. Fronshtein Urology Clinic.
The university currently utilizes three robotic systems: DaVinci Si, DaVinci Xi, and Edge Medical. Additionally, the Cuvis robotic system is employed in orthopedics for large joint arthroplasty.
The surgical team includes specialists in urology, abdominal, colorectal, thoracic, and obstetric-gynecological surgery. Cardiovascular surgery was added to the robotic program in 2024.
In 2025, the university performed nearly 1,000 robotic operations, securing its position among the top 10 robotic surgery centers in Russia.
Robotic systems are used for complex procedures, including 3D lymph node dissection, heart valve interventions, and aortic bypass surgery. The technology allows for precise movements and 3D visualization.
