Palo Alto-based startup ScrollEd has developed an application that converts text files, such as PDFs and textbooks, into a vertical feed format similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels. The platform uses AI to present educational content through videos, audio, text, and interactive quizzes.
Users navigate the feed by swiping up to access new topics or swiping sideways to explore current material in greater depth. The startup aims to address the preference of younger generations for short-form content by integrating learning into a familiar interface.
Founded by Utsav Gupta and Rebecca Neff, the company operates on a freemium model. It offers a free consumer version alongside a paid ScrollEd Pro subscription and annual licenses for educational institutions and corporate training programs.
Institutional clients receive access to analytics, including engagement metrics and student progress reports. The company plans to focus on its consumer launch, expanding its lesson library, and developing pilot programs for institutions in the coming months.
ScrollEd is participating in the TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield 200 competition. The startup is currently building infrastructure to enable educators to assess individual learner needs and adapt content accordingly.
