The American company Radia is developing the WindRunner, a large-scale transport aircraft designed to carry fully assembled rocket stages, boosters, satellites, and reusable spacecraft. The project aims to eliminate the need for disassembling large space hardware for transport, which currently involves lengthy maritime or ground logistics.

The aircraft features a nose-loading design, a low-positioned cargo deck, and a specialized cargo handling system. Radia states that the WindRunner is compatible with standard airport and cargo equipment, removing the requirement for unique infrastructure at destination sites.

A key capability of the WindRunner is its ability to operate from unpaved runways as short as 1800 meters. This allows for direct delivery to remote launch sites, testing facilities, and temporary bases, significantly reducing transit times from days or weeks to mere hours.

Radia claims the cargo hold capacity will enable the transport of satellites twice the size of those currently accommodated by existing air freight options. The company targets both commercial and government entities that require specialized logistics for oversized aerospace components.
