Berlin-based fintech Pliant has secured $80 million in a Series C funding round led by Seaya Nova and Speedinvest. The company, which provides B2B payment infrastructure, plans to use the capital to develop payment solutions for AI agents. This latest investment follows a $40 million Series B round closed in April 2025.

Founded in 2020 by Malte Rau and Fabian Terner, Pliant has surpassed $100 million in annual recurring revenue. The firm reports that its business has doubled for three consecutive years. Currently, the company employs over 300 people across eight offices and processes billions of dollars in annual payments for clients in sectors such as banking, insurance, and travel.

Pliant operates as a principal member of Visa and Mastercard, issuing commercial cards in 13 currencies across 32 countries. Its platform supports card issuance, foreign exchange, and spend management. In April 2025, the company acquired the Austrian insurtech firm hi.health to expand its capabilities into insurance claims payments.

The company is positioning itself to support AI agents that require licensed financial infrastructure to execute payment workflows. These agents connect via the Model Context Protocol, allowing for automated finance tasks with integrated spending controls and audit trails. Pliant competes in a market where firms like Stripe, Visa, and Mastercard are also developing agent-compatible tools.
