OpenAI has established an independent advisory panel, the Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence (AGMAI), to consult on its interactions with the mathematical research community. The group consists of nine mathematicians from institutions including Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge.

The panel will be hosted by the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Members will not receive financial compensation from OpenAI and retain the authority to offer unsolicited advice, comment publicly on the company's impact, and publish their recommendations.

The group was formed after OpenAI approached several mathematicians, who then decided to launch an independent entity. Members will have early access to OpenAI’s research to help assess the significance of findings, coordinate their dissemination, and advise on professional standards.

OpenAI reported that its unreleased model has resolved more than 100 long-standing open problems across various areas of mathematics. The advisory group has identified the coordination of these upcoming results as its primary objective.

Advisory group member Martin Hairer stated that the organization is independent of OpenAI and other frontier AI labs. The panel is currently gathering feedback from the broader mathematical community through discussions and a public feedback form.
