OpenAI has introduced the Rosalind Academic Plan, providing US university biology labs with sponsored access to its GPT-Rosalind model. The program is designed for principal investigators and lab leaders, offering up to 30 free Business Standard seats for a duration of 12 months.

A key feature of the plan is that research data generated through these accounts will not be used to train OpenAI models by default. This policy addresses concerns regarding the privacy of unpublished findings and sensitive datasets, which are common in academic research environments.

Access to the model is subject to organizational approval to ensure the focus remains on legitimate scientific work. GPT-Rosalind is built to analyze biological entities, synthesize scientific literature, plan experiments, and integrate with established research databases.

The GPT-Rosalind model was initially launched as a research preview on April 16, 2026. Additionally, OpenAI lists the gpt-rosalind-discovery model at $5 per million input tokens as of October 10, 2026, and maintains collaborations with companies like Amgen and Moderna.
