A labor court in Brazil identified a prompt injection attack within a legal filing. Two attorneys inserted hidden text in white font on a white background, which was invisible to human readers but detectable by the court's AI system, Galileu.
The hidden instruction commanded the AI to process the petition superficially and ignore the provided documents. The court determined this action was an attempt to manipulate the system to produce favorable results for the plaintiffs.
The court ruled that the attorneys were responsible for the act, labeling it an offense to the dignity of justice. As a penalty, the two lawyers were fined 10 percent of the case value, totaling approximately $16 000.
In addition to the financial penalty, the court reported the attorneys to the state bar association and the Internal Affairs Department of the Regional Labor Court. The court noted that the defendant did not respond to the allegations, making the manipulation attempt unnecessary for the outcome.
