Former OpenAI chief product officer Kevin Weil has launched a new startup focused on AI for scientific research. The company, which has been operating in stealth mode, aims to collect specialized scientific data to improve AI model performance in research workflows.

The startup has secured $215 million in funding, according to Bloomberg. This amount exceeds the initial target of $150 million. While the final valuation for the $215 million round remains unconfirmed, previous reports indicated a target valuation of at least $750 million.

Weil departed OpenAI in April 2026, where he served as chief product officer and VP for Science. During his tenure, he led the Prism initiative, which integrated AI models into scientific processes. His professional background includes product roles at Twitter, Meta, and Planet Labs.

The company joins a growing trend of ventures founded by former OpenAI and Google employees aimed at scientific breakthroughs, such as drug discovery and autonomous research. Market observers are now waiting for the startup to exit stealth mode and clarify its business model.
