Google announced that its visual search volume has reached 50 billion queries per month. This milestone reflects a shift in user behavior, as search activity increasingly moves from traditional text-based inputs to camera-first tools and multimodal queries.
The company's visual search capabilities have expanded significantly over the years. Google Lens, a key component of this ecosystem, recorded 3 billion monthly searches in 2021 and 12 billion in 2023. Recent growth metrics show a 65% year-over-year increase as of mid-2025.
The integration of artificial intelligence has been central to this growth, allowing users to combine images, video, and voice in their queries. Google's AI Mode, which incorporates these visual search features, reached over 1 billion monthly active users within its first year of operation.
Visual search is increasingly tied to commercial activity. Approximately 20% of searches originating from Google Lens demonstrate purchase intent. These queries are supported by the Google Shopping Graph, a database that currently contains more than 50 billion product listings.
