Google has introduced the Connected Apps Platform, designed to allow businesses to integrate their services directly into the Gemini AI assistant and Google Search. This initiative aims to streamline the process for companies to connect their applications, moving away from Google's previous approach of selecting individual partners.
The integration allows users to perform tasks within AI conversations, such as designing templates or managing shopping carts, without switching between different tabs. Google first launched connected apps for Gemini and Search on July 16, 2026, with early partners including Canva, Instacart, and YouTube Music.
The ecosystem expanded significantly during the Made by Google event on August 12–13, 2026, with the addition of over 13 apps, such as Wix, Ticketmaster, and Otter.ai. By September 23, 2026, another 14 apps, including Adobe and Airtable, were added, bringing the total number of third-party integrations to over 60–70 by late September 2026.
Security is managed through an explicit opt-in model, requiring users to grant individual permissions for each service. Users retain control over these connections through their account settings, which dictate what actions the AI is permitted to perform on their behalf. The rollout remains subject to regional, language, and account-type restrictions.
