Google has launched its Personal Intelligence feature for Android Auto, with plans to expand the service to vehicles featuring Google built-in software over the coming months. The system integrates data from user accounts, including Gmail, Calendar, and Google Photos, to provide context for AI-driven requests.
The integration allows drivers to perform tasks such as navigating to appointments by referencing calendar entries or identifying locations from personal photos. Google states that the feature is designed to reduce the need for manual input while driving, allowing users to interact with the assistant using natural language commands.
Personal Intelligence is disabled by default, though settings previously configured in the Gemini app on other devices will carry over to Android Auto. Users can manage these permissions within the Connected Apps section of the Gemini settings, where they can toggle access to Workspace services, Search, and Photos.
Google clarifies that it does not utilize personal user data to train the Gemini model. However, the company notes that it processes inputs and outputs during AI interactions. While Google employs filtering mechanisms for personal information, it does not provide guarantees regarding the complete exclusion of sensitive data from these interactions.
