Google is introducing personalized AI features to its Gemini assistant for vehicles, currently available in millions of cars, trucks, and SUVs. This update allows the assistant to access data from Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube, Google Maps, and search history to better understand user preferences and schedules.
The new functionality will be deployed through two primary channels: Android Auto, which connects via mobile devices, and Google Built-in, the software pre-installed directly into vehicle infotainment systems. The rollout begins today for Android Auto, with integration for Google Built-in vehicles expected over the coming months.
Users must provide explicit authorization to enable these personalized features. Once activated, the system can process complex natural language queries, such as checking flight status and gate information simultaneously while navigating to an airport. Google emphasizes that users retain full control over their data, including the ability to toggle the feature or select specific apps for integration.
