Foodtech startup FLTRD has secured over €500 000 in a funding round led by impact investor 4impact capital. The round also included participation from several angel investors with backgrounds in the fast-moving consumer goods sector, such as Jeroen Lubbers.
The FLTRD app allows users to scan grocery items to identify ultra-processed foods and receive healthier alternatives. The platform currently provides a proprietary PureScore for over 150 000 products across seven supermarket chains. The system evaluates items based on ingredients, processing techniques, and organic certification.
The company reports that over 35 000 users in the Netherlands currently utilize the app on iOS and Android devices. FLTRD aims to scale its reach to 100 million users within the next five years. The startup plans to expand its operations into Belgium before the end of the year.
Beyond consumer-facing tools, FLTRD intends to license its PureScore methodology to food producers and retailers. This expansion comes as the European Commission evaluates new policy frameworks regarding ultra-processed foods, with scientific advice expected by March 2027.
