FAW Group has successfully produced the first large-scale curved transparent ceramic composite glass sample. This development marks a significant milestone in high-security automotive materials, achieved through collaboration with domestic research institutions and industrial partners.
Transparent ceramic material is created by sintering high-purity raw materials. It offers four times the hardness of standard glass while maintaining optical clarity. The primary challenge in manufacturing lies in maintaining uniform shrinkage and thermal field control during the sintering process for large, curved surfaces.
The research team implemented a localized YAG powder selection strategy and a defect-free green body molding method. They also developed advanced sintering processes for curved surfaces, enabling the production of components with dimensions and curvature radii exceeding 800 mm.
The new composite glass utilizes high-precision thermal bending and bonding techniques to minimize optical distortion. Compared to existing international alternatives, the sample achieves a 50 percent reduction in thickness and a 40 percent reduction in weight while maintaining equivalent safety standards.
