The joint venture Electric Mobility Technologies (EMT) has revealed patent images for its debut EV K-car, designated as the #01. The vehicle features a boxy design with sliding rear doors and is expected to launch in the Japanese market in 2027. It will compete directly with offerings from Nissan, Suzuki, and the BYD Racco.
Patent filings indicate significant design changes from the initial concept, including a revised front bumper with integrated fog lights, a slimmer grille, and traditional door handles. The company also showcased an off-road inspired trim, characterized by extensive plastic body cladding and a modified front bumper design.
EMT is a Singapore-based joint venture involving Chery Automobile, Jiangsu Yueda Automobile Group, Autobacs Seven, Gotion, and Anest Iwata. Chery provides the vehicle platform and powertrain technology, while production will take place at Yueda’s Yancheng plant. Gotion is set to supply the batteries, and Autobacs will manage distribution in Japan.
The company plans to expand its lineup with three additional models, including a hatchback, an SUV, and an MPV. While current production is focused on the initial K-car, EMT has expressed intentions to establish local manufacturing facilities in Japan after 2030, contingent upon the commercial performance of its vehicles.
