Mind Robotics, a startup founded by Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe in 2025, has appointed Doug Field as its president. Field previously held leadership roles at Apple, Tesla, and Ford, where he managed projects ranging from Mac hardware engineering to the development of the Tesla Model 3 and Ford’s electric vehicle division.

The startup has secured over $1 billion in financing to develop robots capable of performing industrial tasks. Although the company has not publicly demonstrated its technology, it aims to create machines with physical reasoning and dexterity for use in factory environments and other applications.

Mind Robotics plans to utilize AI training data provided by Rivian, with the automaker serving as the startup's first customer and initial testing ground. While Rivian holds equity in the venture, Scaringe intends to maintain the companies as separate entities, distinct from the integrated approach taken by competitors like Tesla.

The robotics firm is currently expanding its workforce and has 32 open positions. Field will lead the effort to integrate AI into robotics, focusing on deploying technology within high-volume manufacturing facilities to address complex engineering challenges.
