Deel has introduced two specialized language models, Pangaea K1 and P1, designed to handle HR and payroll inquiries. The company aims to reduce reliance on general-purpose AI models by routing specific tasks to these internal systems. K1 focuses on labor relations and workplace procedures, while P1 handles payroll-related questions.
The K1 model, based on NVIDIA Nemotron and fine-tuned by AI21 Labs, was trained on a database of over 43,500 pages maintained by 2,000 experts. It achieved a score of 70 on the EmBench Global Work test. Deel reported a median response time of 7.7 seconds for K1, which is faster than the 14.8 to 28.4 seconds recorded by competing models in their internal tests.
Alongside the models, Deel launched Emet, a business unit focused on providing expert data for AI training and evaluation. Emet leverages Deel's existing infrastructure, which supports over 40,000 clients across 150 countries, to recruit specialists for model assessment and training. The company is already collaborating with major AI laboratories through this platform.
Pangaea models are integrated into the existing Deel AI assistant, which is included in all company subscriptions without additional per-query fees. The system automatically routes user requests to the most appropriate model. Deel continues to use general-purpose models for complex scenarios, maintaining a hybrid approach to its AI infrastructure.
