Two independent teams debuted modified Honda Prelude models at the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, which runs until November 6. Both projects replace the stock 200-horsepower hybrid powertrain with the 315-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter K20C1 engine and six-speed manual transmission sourced from the Civic Type R.

The Hasport project, dubbed the Club Racer, is designed for time-attack competition. It features suspension components from the Acura Integra Type S TCX race car and a custom Borla exhaust system. Honda is showcasing this vehicle directly within its official Honda Racing Corporation booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The second build, created by Throtl in partnership with Idemitsu, focuses on road use. The team integrated the Civic Type R’s front and rear bumpers, a carbon-fiber hood with an integrated scoop, and interior elements such as the shifter, center console, and carpeting. The builders noted that the conversion required significant modifications to the vehicle's underlying systems.

While the presence of the Hasport build at the official HRC booth indicates internal interest from Honda, the company has not committed to a production version of a Prelude Type R. The builders suggest that while such a model is technically feasible, Honda may be hesitant to introduce a vehicle that could compete with the Civic Type R's status as its performance flagship.
