Coinbase has enabled perpetual futures trading for its Coinbase for Agents platform. The update allows third-party AI models to execute trades on behalf of users, covering both cryptocurrency tokens and traditional market indices.
The integration process was accelerated by an automated feedback loop. On October 21, 2026, a user-operated AI agent submitted a feature request via the platform's feedback tool. Coinbase’s internal agent converted this request into a code change, which was approved and deployed within five minutes.
The platform now supports more than 20 crypto tokens and several US equity index contracts, including US500, AI10, and TECH100. These index-based products are currently restricted to users in the United States.
Coinbase for Agents, which launched on June 11, 2026, utilizes integration methods known as MCP and skill.md to connect AI models like Claude and ChatGPT to Coinbase Advanced Trade accounts. Users maintain control by setting specific trading limits for their agents.
Lincoln Murr, the Head of AI Product at Coinbase, oversees the initiative. While the platform has expanded from basic account management to derivatives trading in approximately four months, experts note that increased reliance on automated agents may influence market volatility.
