Financial institutions are rapidly increasing their recruitment of AI specialists as they transition from simple chatbots to complex AI agents. According to data from Draup, job listings related to artificial intelligence at major banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Capital One, grew by 49% this year, reaching a total of 139,819 active postings.
The focus of hiring has shifted toward agent orchestration, a skill involving the coordination of multiple AI agents to complete tasks. Mentions of this capability in job descriptions surged by 1,721%, rising from 108 in 2025 to 1,967 this year. Demand for specific frameworks also spiked, with LangGraph mentions up 679% and LlamaIndex up 291%.
Banks are prioritizing oversight roles to manage the risks associated with autonomous systems. Job postings referencing responsible AI increased by 657%, while mentions of AI governance and risk management rose by 394% and 359%, respectively. This trend follows a decision by federal regulators to exclude generative and agentic AI from current oversight frameworks.
JPMorgan Chase is actively restructuring its workforce to favor AI specialists over traditional banking roles. The firm is developing agents capable of operating independently for extended periods, with plans to increase autonomy from minutes to hours. The bank previously reported that its existing AI tools have already contributed to a 20% increase in gross sales.
