PostgreSQL remains the top choice for developers for the fourth consecutive year, according to the Stack Overflow Developer Survey. Phillip Merrick, CEO of pgEdge, attributes this sustained popularity to the rise of AI coding agents, which frequently utilize PostgreSQL as the default database for new applications.

Data from Databricks indicates that AI agents now initiate 80% of enterprise databases. PostgreSQL supports this growth through its extensible architecture, which allows for the integration of vectors, graphs, and agentic branching without requiring separate database engines.

To manage the increasing number of databases, pgEdge introduced the AI DBA Workbench. This platform monitors systems, identifies performance issues, and suggests SQL repairs, while the SafeSession technology enforces read-only access to prevent unauthorized changes by AI agents.

The company also launched the Starfleet platform to facilitate the transition from prototyping to production. It supports deployment across managed clouds, private clouds, and on-premises environments, providing flexibility for organizations with strict data location requirements.
