Apple is developing its first smart home hub, which will feature artificial intelligence for facial recognition. According to Mark Gurman, the device is designed to identify specific family members and display personalized content, such as individual photos, music preferences, and calendar events.
The hub will not utilize the standard Face ID technology found in iPhones, though the specific technical differences remain undisclosed. Previous reports suggest the device will be equipped with 8GB of RAM, a 6-inch display, and run on the dedicated homeOS operating system.
Industry analysts suggest that this facial recognition technology could eventually be integrated into future Apple smart home cameras. Such a system would allow devices to identify users from various positions within a room, potentially triggering automated security recordings based on recognized activity.
