Amazon is actively reaching out to former employees to fill open positions across the company. As part of this effort, recruiters are offering some candidates a streamlined interview process. One recruiter within the AWS division referred to this outreach as the Boomerang Reengagement Initiative.

The company's AI agents division, led by AWS Vice President Swami Sivasubramanian, is specifically targeting former AI and machine learning specialists. Recruiters are highlighting the company's current focus on AI development as a key reason for the renewed interest in these professionals.

This recruitment push follows a period of significant workforce reduction, during which Amazon laid off more than 30 000 employees over the past year. The company is now viewing these former staff members as a qualified talent pool whose skills and experience are already known to the organization.

Recruiters are also conducting surveys to understand the reasons behind previous departures. In one instance, an AWS Finance candidate was asked if the mandatory return-to-office policy influenced their decision to leave. This data is intended to help the company better understand employee preferences regarding remote work.

Amazon spokesperson Hayley Silva stated that rehiring former staff is a long-standing practice rather than a new initiative limited to specific departments. She confirmed that while some candidates may have been affected by previous layoffs, the company is not specifically targeting those who left due to office attendance requirements.
