Altera has introduced Agilex 2X, a new portfolio of field-programmable gate arrays and system-on-chip devices. The product line is designed for artificial intelligence infrastructure, robotics, and industrial automation. The series includes four families: Agilex 27, 25, 23, and 22, each tailored to specific performance and connectivity requirements.

The Agilex 27 family, which targets high-bandwidth applications, offers a 1.8-times improvement in performance per watt compared to the previous Agilex 7 generation. The hardware features third-generation HyperFlex architecture and the HyperFlow on-chip data network to manage high-speed data movement without congesting programmable logic.

Software support for the new platform is available via Quartus Prime 26.3. Additionally, the company has released QuartusIQ, an AI-powered development tool that reportedly accelerates design creation by up to 10 times and total design cycles by 1.5 times. Engineering samples for the Agilex 27 family are scheduled for release in the second half of 2027.

The launch follows a significant corporate restructuring for Altera. In April 2025, Intel sold a 51% stake in the company to Silver Lake. Altera has since filed confidentially for an initial public offering, though specific details regarding the timeline or valuation remain undisclosed.
