On October 15, a Xpeng X9 vehicle was involved in a serious accident in Nanjing. The car hit a curb, collided with trees and a utility pole, and subsequently overturned. The insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss, deeming it beyond repair.

The owner, identified as Mr. Liu, questioned why the vehicle's airbags failed to deploy during the crash. Initially, the local Xpeng dealership stated that the collision did not meet the necessary conditions for airbag activation.

Xpeng Motors provided an official response via email on October 22. Based on vehicle data and dashcam footage, the company confirmed the car was in manual driving mode at the time of the incident. The analysis showed the driver was pressing the accelerator and steering sharply before the impact.

The manufacturer maintains that the collision did not trigger the airbag sensors. Xpeng stated it respects the customer's request for an independent third-party inspection and will cooperate with the process. Mr. Liu has expressed dissatisfaction with this explanation and is considering legal action.
