Xiaomi has unveiled a new robotic hand designed for industrial applications, featuring 21 degrees of freedom. The development follows an extensive study of 2,579 standard operating procedures across 16 automotive manufacturing facilities, with 1,827 procedures selected for data analysis.
The robotic hand is equipped with 26 electric motors and utilizes a cable-tensioning system that functions similarly to human tendons. This configuration allows for precise finger movement and adjustable grip strength, enabling the robot to handle objects of varying shapes and sizes effectively.
To ensure accurate interaction with objects, the device integrates 1,500 high-density tactile sensors across its palm surface. These sensors provide real-time data on physical contact and pressure distribution, allowing the system to detect slippage or unintended surface contact during operation.
The engineering team focused on optimizing heat dissipation and maintenance requirements to ensure long-term reliability in factory settings. Xiaomi plans to conduct field tests to evaluate the stability of the robotic hand and its ability to integrate into existing production workflows.
