Peter Sellis, the former first product manager at Snapchat and product leader at Discord, has joined X to oversee its product division. He replaces Nikita Bier, who stepped down from the role in August. Sellis will now manage the platform's creator compensation system, which underwent significant changes on September 8.
The current Original Content Rewards program compensates creators based on qualified impressions from Premium subscribers within the Home feed. To qualify, users must maintain a Premium subscription, have 500 verified followers, and reach 500,000 verified Home feed views over a 90-day period. Payouts for US creators are processed through the X Money application.
The platform currently reports approximately 4.4 million Premium subscribers out of a total monthly user base of 550 million. While the company has not disclosed total creator payout figures, it previously reduced payments for accounts reposting third-party content by 60% in April. No new changes to the compensation structure have been announced.
Financial data indicates that SpaceX, the owner of X, recorded $538 million in advertising revenue during the third quarter, marking an 18% increase year-over-year. Despite this quarterly growth, total advertising revenue for the nine-month period declined by 6%. For comparison, Twitter generated approximately $1.08 billion in ad revenue during a single quarter in 2022.
