Microsoft has initiated a voluntary exit offer program for 60,000 employees across the United States, India, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The offer is available to staff members at internal level 70 or below. Chief People Officer Amy Coleman stated that the selection of eligible business units was based on current workforce needs, customer commitments, and specific business priorities.
This initiative marks the second voluntary workforce reduction effort by the company in 2026. In April, Microsoft offered a retirement package to 8,750 employees in the United States, with approximately 30 percent of those eligible accepting the deal. Additionally, the company conducted a layoff in its Xbox division in July, which affected 3,200 staff members, representing roughly 20 percent of the gaming unit's total headcount.
The company is exploring the use of voluntary exits as a recurring workforce management tool, building on insights gained from earlier programs this year. Eligible employees will receive notification via email starting this Monday. This announcement precedes the company's upcoming quarterly earnings report, which is scheduled for release following the market close later this week.
