WeRide founder and CEO Tony Han discussed the future of autonomous taxi services in a recent interview with CNBC. He stated that the company is prepared to scale its operations and aims to enable autonomous travel between Guangzhou and Hong Kong within four to five years.
The company currently operates in 13 countries across more than 60 cities. WeRide maintains one of the largest autonomous vehicle fleets globally, totaling approximately 3,600 L4-level vehicles, with over 1,800 of those specifically designated as Robotaxis.
Han emphasized that while the company has the necessary hardware, software, and ecosystem in place, regulatory alignment remains the primary challenge. WeRide is working to demonstrate that its technology ensures safety for both passengers and the public in surrounding communities.
