Waymo has announced its entry into the Singaporean market, marking its first expansion into Southeast Asia. The company aims to launch a public robotaxi service in the country by 2028. The initial fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles is scheduled to arrive in the coming months to begin preparations for testing.

The operational timeline includes a mapping and road validation phase starting in 2027, during which tests will be conducted under the supervision of safety drivers. Before commercial operations can commence, Waymo must secure approval from the Land Transport Authority of Singapore and pass safety assessments at the Centre of Excellence for Testing and Research.

Waymo has already established a legal entity in Singapore and participates in the local Autonomous Vehicle Steering Committee. The company currently operates nearly 4,000 autonomous vehicles across approximately 15 cities in the United States. Its international roadmap also includes planned launches in London by late 2026, followed by Tokyo and Munich in 2027.

The Singaporean government views Waymo's entry as a strategic move to bolster its autonomous driving ecosystem and create high-skilled jobs. Officials have committed to facilitating workforce training to ensure the transition to autonomous technology aligns with social adaptation. Singapore's compact size and digitized infrastructure are cited as key factors for this deployment.
