Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has announced its intention to launch commercial robotaxi services in Singapore by 2028. The company is also targeting the commencement of commercial operations in Tokyo, Japan, as early as next year.

The expansion strategy for Singapore begins with establishing a local presence in the coming months. The company plans to deploy an initial fleet of Jaguar I-PACE vehicles to the region to support its testing and operational goals.

The roadmap includes a phase of localized training with human drivers scheduled for 2027. By 2028, Waymo intends to open its ride-hailing services to the general public through its proprietary mobile application.

The company is coordinating its efforts with the Singaporean Ministry of Transport and the Land Transport Authority. Waymo aims to create local high-skilled jobs and integrate its autonomous technology into the existing public transportation network.
