Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has launched a new transit discount program in partnership with Visa. The initiative aims to encourage the use of robotaxis as a connection to public transportation networks. The program is currently available to users in the San Francisco Bay Area.

To qualify for the incentive, riders must use a Visa credit card to pay for a Waymo trip and a public transit ride within a two-hour window. Upon verification, the company will automatically apply a $2.85 credit to the user's account for future rides. This mechanism mirrors the regional tap-to-pay Clipper card system.

The company previously tested similar transit-focused discount programs in San Francisco in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2025. The collaboration with Visa allows Waymo to verify transit and robotaxi payments in close proximity, streamlining the reward process for commuters.

In addition to the discount scheme, Waymo has introduced dedicated robotaxi staging zones at Caltrain stations. The company claims these spaces will decrease wait times for passengers. Waymo plans to scale both the discount program and the dedicated staging infrastructure to additional cities.
