Volvo has updated its XC40 and EX40 models, introducing design changes and technical improvements. The XC40 now features a new grille, while both models receive redesigned LED taillights with 15 sections and a refreshed rear bumper. The exterior design now includes scalloped cuts along the sides.
The XC40 plug-in hybrid receives a significant battery upgrade, increasing its electric-only range to 78 miles compared to the previous 35 miles. The electric motor power has also been boosted. Volvo intends this model to serve as a bridge for drivers transitioning to electric vehicles.
The fully electric EX40 is available in three variants. The long-range version features an 82 kWh battery, providing 357 miles of range (WLTP) and supporting DC charging up to 205 kW. A standard variant with a 69–70 kWh battery offers 295 miles of range.
Volvo has overhauled the safety systems for both models, adding a new front camera and front- and rear-corner radars. These sensors enable a new Door Opening Alert system. Additionally, the optional Pilot Assist ADAS now includes lane change assist functionality.
The EX40 will not be available in the US market. Volvo continues to focus on its 40 series as a core part of its vehicle lineup, emphasizing safety and updated software technology to maintain the popularity of these models.
