Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.3 GTI, an electric hot hatch marking the 50th anniversary of the GTI badge. This model is the company's first rear-wheel-drive GTI and features a 79 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 601 km under the WLTP cycle.
The vehicle delivers 322 horsepower and 545 Nm of torque, achieving a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 5.6 seconds. It supports DC fast charging up to 183 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 29 minutes.
Standard equipment includes an adaptive DCC sports chassis, progressive steering, and a specialized GTI mode that optimizes performance settings. The interior features a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, a 10-inch instrument cluster, and physical control buttons.
The exterior design incorporates a red stripe as a tribute to the original 1976 Golf GTI and includes 20-inch Wörthersee wheels. The car also replicates the sound of a combustion engine, similar to the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N.
Pre-sales for the ID.3 GTI are scheduled to begin in early 2027. While official pricing remains unannounced, the company suggests it will be positioned above the ID. Polo GTI, which currently starts at €39 000 in Germany.
