Volkswagen has unveiled the Mission Efficiency electric concept car, which features a record-breaking aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.158. Built on the MEB+ architecture, the vehicle utilizes front-wheel-drive components intended for the upcoming ID. Polo and ID. Cross models.
During a test drive from Wolfsburg to Vienna, the prototype covered 1,278.36 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle is equipped with a 54.9 kWh net battery, which is smaller than the 57.5 kWh battery found in the base Tesla Model 3.
The car achieved an average energy consumption of 6.89 kWh per 100 kilometers at an average speed of 67.72 km/h. Upon reaching the destination, the battery retained enough charge for an additional 164 kilometers of range.
The design focuses on minimizing air resistance through a teardrop shape, closed wheel arches, and flush door handles. The interior replaces a central touchscreen with a docking station for personal devices, while roof-integrated solar panels provide up to 30 kilometers of extra range.
