Volkswagen has launched the ID Era 8X in China, a large SUV developed in collaboration with SAIC. The vehicle is built on an 800-volt architecture and operates as an extended-range electric vehicle, featuring a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that functions as a generator.

The SUV is available with two battery options: a 51.1-kWh lithium-ion unit providing a 232-mile range, and a 65.2-kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery offering a 280-mile range. Combined driving ranges reach up to 995 miles for the long-range versions.

Pricing for the lineup starts at ¥226 800 for the Pro model and goes up to ¥289 900 for the Ultra Long Range version. Volkswagen is currently offering a temporary discount of ¥20 000 across all models.

The vehicle includes a Momenta driver-assistance system equipped with a 192-channel LiDAR and 26 sensors for autonomous navigation. The interior features dual 15.6-inch 2.5k displays, a digital gauge cluster, and a head-up display.

While Volkswagen has not confirmed plans to sell the ID Era 8X outside China, the company is conducting a feasibility study on exporting its Chinese-market models to Europe, despite potential tariff-related price increases.
